An Amazing Wheat Thresher

When you look at my title you might think, "What is so amazing about a wheat thresher?" The amazing thing about this wheat thresher is it is a WEAPON IN DISGUISE. This weapon is called the nunchuck. The reason it was used as a weapon was because farmers in Southeast Asia were not allowed to carry normal weapons so they used the nunchuck to defend themselves.

Last week, our marial arts instructor brought some nunchucks to class. We got to practice one move with them. He let me borrow them until next class after Christmas break! So far, I have been having an awesome time!

This is me practicing the move.

God is with us!

Last Monday there was a big wind storm during the night. A tree fell over and caused the power to go out. Late that night Mom and Dad were up with a friend of ours trying to get the heat back on with the generator. Meanwhile, a guy from GVEA (electric company) was outside in the wind, fixing the power line. The treee that hit the power line was about ten feet from the house and could have easily crushed it. Five other trees fell down that day, too. God protected us from all the dangers that night.

A Very Cool Mammal

For a school assignment, I made this report about Arctic Foxes.

Step 1 Go to the libry and pick out a mammal book.
Step 2 Read the book.
Step 3 Get information from the book and write it down in list form.
Step 4 Put the information in paragraph form.
Step 5 Scan map from the book to computer.

This was a fun biology project for me.

The Best Adapted Animal in the World?
By Connor Albers

The scientific name of the Arctic Fox is Vulpes Lagopus. They are in order Carnivora.
Arctic Foxes live the farthest north of any land mammal, and they have the warmest fur of a mammal.
Arctic Fox’s ears and nose are short to keep their body heat in. It uses its tail as a blanket. When it gets too cold, they dig a hole in the snow to burrow in. In the summer, they store body fat to act as insulation. In the winter their coats are white; in the summer they are brown. Different fox families use the same den for a long time.
Their babies are called cubs, and are born in May or June. Seven to 15 cubs are born in one litter.
Arctic Foxes are omnivores, and eat lemmings, birds, eggs, berries and other things. They store their food in the ground in “caches”.
I think that the Arctic Fox is pretty well adapted to its habitat in the arctic. In fact, is the most adapted mammal that I know of.

What does a snowmachine look like on the inside?

A couple days ago we thought there might be a problem with the pull-start in our snow machine. So, yesterday we went into the garage where it was parked and took it apart. We discovered no problems. The gears were all nice and "teethy", and the pull-start worked fine. Then we put it back together, and it started up well. Then Mom and Dad drove it to the Tesoro to gas it up.

These are some pictures of various parts from the snow machine:

These are the gears that are "teethy".

PLAYING WITH FRIENDS

Last Friday we drove up to Healy to meet and play with another homeschool family. We sledded down a steep hill on the road and played a game inside.

On Sunday, we had Titus over to play. We drove my remote controlled tank around in the church and built ramps for it. We also rode on our four-wheeler in the snow. That was a fun day!

The Piano

A couple days ago I was taking piano lessons and Mom realized I wasnt having too much fun. The reason was because the songs in the book were kind of "dumb." They had lyrics that were for little kids. Now I am in a new piano lesson book that has better songs for me. I am learning where the notes are on the piano and hope I improve soon.

FUN ON THE ICE

It was interesting to go down to the Jack and found that parts of it are iced over. Samantha and I were on some ice and we were purposely breaking it with our feet. The Jack is a river near our house in Cantwell.

YIPEE,MY BIRTHDAY IS HERE!

My birthday was really fun. DJ and Christine were with us. These are some pictures of my gifts. The quilt is from Miss Be, a lady who goes to our church. The tank I really like; it is remote controlled and shoots air soft bullets! The legos I put togither right away. At first it was a bit of a struggle to transform the transformer, but then we got it figured out.

A BIG, BIG PLANE

Uncle DJ sure flies a big plane! It was fun getting to see the inside of the biggest plane I've ever seen. I actually got to drive the C17! Uncle DJ said that it can hold three helicopters.

The closest I've been to getting crushed

When we were down in Anchorage with DJ and Christine, DJ took me and Dad to the airport runway to watch the planes land. It looked like they were really going to land on our heads! They were very big, loud passenger planes. I loved it!

The Double Post

Yesterday, Bob Hempsted invited me and Samantha over to feed his sled dogs. We had a good time. We feed them their dog food along with a hamburger/water mixture.

The day before that, there were five ptarmigan in our yard. They are our state bird. In summer, ptarmigan change from white to brown so that they are camouflaged with the dirt, and in winter their feathers are white to blend in with the snow. They also have feathers all the way down their legs to keep them warm.

The JELLO cell

Last Wednesday, we made a model of a cell with peas, jello, a hard boiled egg, and noodles. The ingredients were different parts and organelles like lysosomes, cytoplasm, and nucleus.

Psalm 23

This past week we were learning Psalm 23. I know how it goes already! My dad thinks I am an auditory learner , and I think so, too. I heard Mom read the verses a couple times, I said it a couple times, and then I had it memorized.

My favorite part is verse 5, about the food:
"You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies."

Biggest Mountain I've Ever Seen

When Grandpa and Grandma came to Alaska we got to see Mt. McKinley. These are some pictures that we took a few miles south of Cantwell. We don't usually have a clear sky, so its uncommon to see the mountain.

This is me, Mom, and Samantha, standing in front of unnamed lake and Mt. McKinley. Samantha and I had fun surpising Mom with a bouquet of flowers.

The four-wheeler adventure

Last week, Grandma and Grandpa were here. This is a picture of all of us at the top of Wolf Point. Grandpa and Grandma rode the yellow four-wheeler, Mom and I rode on the red four-wheeler, and Dad and Samantha rode on the green one. We borrowed them from a friend in town. We rode back up into a valley where the Jack River ran through. We had a picnic of hotdogs and marshmallows. We also saw four Dall Sheep up on a hill. We had a good time there.

This picture is of Grandma holding Cinder, our dog, next to the campfire.

This is a picture of me next to the Jack River. I made a three-inch thick stream in the sand.
